Carey & John were wed at the Unitarian Church and had an amazing party following at a private home in Shawkemo. A 9 year old Aille Sweeney sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow during the ceremony, wowing everyone. Musicians Mollie Glazer played cello and Isaiah Williams played the organ.
Carey is a freelance writer and author of The Brooklyn Bartender. John is in fact a Brooklyn bartender, who has helped open the new and popular Greydon House here on island. Their wedding really catered to their personalities and love of food and drink. The bar at cocktail hour was tended by their friends the Neff brothers who also concocted a special ‘magic potion’ drink at the bonfire afterparty. Instead of a cake cutting, John popped open a 15 liter Nebuchadnezzar of champagne for their guests to enjoy. Rather than a wedding caterer, they enlisted the culinary craft of Proprietors‘ owners Michael and Orla LaScola.
Naturally, the well traveled pair chose Nantucket as their wedding location – as it is the greatest place on earth. Both Carey’s parents have homes here on island within sight of the Unitarian Church, which served as beautiful backdrops for getting ready and portraits, and her mother’s 1948 bright red Jeepster brought them to the incredible Ducksholm property in Shawkemo. Guests danced their hearts out as confetti canons shot bursts of color under the tent on the full moon evening. A highlight of the night was John’s niece’s choreographed dance to JT’s Can’t Stop the Feeling, which turned into a super fun flash mob with all the guests joining in to surprise the newlyweds.

It felt a little bit like fall for Annie & Larry’s ‘Sconset wedding last weekend and no one was complaining about it.
