No one wants rain on their wedding day, never mind a near deluge preventing them from a scenic, outdoor ceremony overlooking the Nantucket harbor. No. No one wants that. BUT if that is going to happen, a beautiful rehearsal dinner, an all star team on the wedding day to make it the most perfect it can be, and a great attitude, all make for the best possible day ever!
Meryl & Dylan‘s rehearsal dinner was held at the White Elephant Hotel, and their wedding day took place at Great Harbor Yacht Club.
In the bride’s words-
“Dylan and I met when we were both living in New York City in 2016. We went on our first date to a little cocktail bar, The Garret, and instantly hit it off. The Garret ended up being our first stop on a four-stop bar crawl that evening and our second, third and fourth dates were a fast follow in the next week or so. We instantly knew that our time was better spent together. Five years later, two different cities, one MBA, five apartments, one puppy and a whole lot of life in between; Dylan proposed five years later on the roof of our first home together in Chelsea.
Early February 2021, we went into NYC to have dinner with my family after we all had our first COVID Vaccine shots. We stayed in Chelsea, our old neighborhood, for the weekend so we could be close to my sister and our favorite, regular spots. Dylan suggested we go to Beer Run, a tiny craft beer bar under our building for a drink before dinner with my parents so we could also stop by our old building and pick up some mail that was left there for us. When we got to our old apartment building, Dylan suggested we go up to the roof for old time’s sake. Dylan then (and our dog Charlie) got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on the roof of our first home together. We then went to meet my family for dinner. Although Dylan had asked for my Dad’s permission a few months back, my parents had NO idea that Dylan planned to propose that night. My sister Allie, who was in on the surprise, had a bunch of our closest friends back at her apartment waiting for us after dinner to continue the celebrations.
Dylan and I both grew up going to Nantucket. Dylan’s father owns Pageo, a jewelry store on island and in Boston and my cousins have a house on island that we frequented each summer. We went to Nantucket together within the first month of meeting each other from New York and it’s where I met his parents for the first time. We’ve shared many firsts on the island and we both like to think we truly fell in love on Nantucket. It continues to be our happiest place and we hope to have the opportunity to bring our own family to the place we got married in the future.
A few wedding planning highlights were designing our invitation suite and wedding decor with Wouldn’t It Be Lovely, our engagement pictures with YOU & Charlie on the most perfect Nantucket evening and the flowers, all the flowers!
Our wedding weekend was easily the best weekend of our lives. We had our favorite people, in our favorite place for three whole days celebrating our love alongside us. We kicked off the party at Cisco Brewers, had dinner with our immediate families at Millie’s then sang our hearts out at Gaslight on Thursday night. Dylan golfed on Friday with his friends and the girls did a workout class in town. Friday night we took a boat ride in the harbor to our rehearsal at Great Harbor Yacht Club with our bridal party and groomsmen then headed back to the White Elephant for dinner and our welcome party at Brant Point Grill.
The morning of our wedding was my most favorite wedding memory. It was torrentially raining and the wind was relentless. Hurricane Ian had made its way up North and the weather was, what I thought would be, my nightmare. A sense of calm rushed over us that morning and we could not stop laughing and enjoying our wedding morning with one another. Dylan and I went to breakfast in town and read our vows to one another in private before saying goodbye & going our separate ways. That breakfast and that morning will always be a treasured memory of mine.
Our wedding was not what I pictured. No Nantucket sunset, no outdoor cocktail party or harbor-view ceremony under the chuppah but it was PERFECT. Everything about the day and the evening was a dream come true and the storm made it even more memorable.”
