We only break our “exclusively on Nantucket” rule for a few special people, and only if they send us to equally awesome places. Sarah, Carl, and their 3 kids are our neighbors and great friends of ours. Sarah was one of our bridesmaids, and Virginia was a flower girl at our own wedding. When he (finally) proposed at Brant Point last year, we were extremely happy for them.
Last week, we got to vacation with about 50 of their closest friends and family at the Hope Town Harbour Lodge on Abaco Island in the Bahamas. We were blown away not only by the beauty of the island, the quaintness, the quiet, but by the overwhelming hospitality of the locals. Blown away. The nicest bunch of people you’d ever want to meet. Everyone says hello, good morning, and engages in helpful conversation. It warmed our hearts. Visit our Zofia Photography Facebook page for photos of the island, including our bike and fishing trips, lighthouse visit, and even a little excitement over an explosion and fire the night of the welcome dinner.
Weddings involving children of the couple are especially sweet. Virginia, Lillian, and Hutton were the only wedding party. Hutton carried a “Dad, Here Comes Your Bride” sign down the sand to meet Carl. Lilly was her adorable, precocious self making silly faces. All eyes were on Carl, who barely kept his composure upon seeing his bride for the first time.
I had the pleasure of photographing Carl’s father’s wedding a few years back. Our June couple, Kendall and Tom were in attendance, as well as a couple whose wedding we’d kill to shoot this October. (Set the date!!) Pulling double duty as guests and photographers was so much fun!
To Sarah and Carl, and their family, thank you for having us along. Let’s go back soon! Conch fritters all around!
~ Enjoy, Zofia & Mark
* This was also our first wedding with the new Nikon Df. We’ll have a gear review of that shortly on the Fundy Software‘s blog.
Eliza & Taylor’s journey to the altar was delayed due to the pandemic, but certainly worth the wait! Eliza’s mother, Laura, reached out in early 2019 to let me in on surprise proposal plans that Taylor had while the couple was hiking in Spain. She said yes, and a few months later I got to […]
Jen & Mick were married at the Siasconset Union Chapel with their reception following at the Chanticleer restaurant. Jen grew up coming to Nantucket every summer with her parents and sisters, and Mick grew up visiting nearby on the Cape. Mick proposed in Ocean Beach, California just about a year ago by sneaking a ring […]
There is something wild going on with the hydrangeas on Nantucket this summer- they are just so lush! Katie & Phil took a break from wedding planning to have some engagement photos taken on the most gorgeous July evening. A wonderful couple who is game for anything and that sweet golden hour light made for […]
Danielle & David were married at the First Congregational Church with their reception following on a private property in Shawkemo. The couple’s first vacation together was to Nantucket, so it was just the perfect place to plan their August wedding. With the help of Maggie from Nantucket Island Events, they put together a stunning wedding […]
It felt a little bit like fall for Annie & Larry’s ‘Sconset wedding last weekend and no one was complaining about it. It’s been a hot and humid summer and we are all looking forward to the cooler, dryer feel of September…and of course, weddings! Annie & Larry kicked off my September wedding season with […]
Caroline & Mark were married at the First Congregational Church with their reception following at the Nantucket Golf Club. For Caroline, the wedding day began at her family home in downtown Nantucket- a former whaling captain’s home once owned by the Macy family, one of the original founders of the island. Mark and his groomsmen […]
