Melissa & Adam were married on the docks of the Boat Basin, a place very special to her family.
Melissa was only 3 weeks old when she spent her first night in her family’s boat, Shear Madness, on Nantucket Harbor. She’s come back to the Boat Basin to visit every summer since, and has many fond and fun memories on the docks.
The couple met through a friend while she was completing medical school, and he was designing race cars! Though Adam is from Kansas, and Melissa’s an East Coast girl, they had an instant connection. After her emergency medicine residency and a couple years of living in CT together, it was decided that Adam did indeed love the East Coast as well, and was excited to propose to Melissa. They were engaged while on island for the Figawi boat race festivities over Memorial Day weekend last year. Figawi was always a favorite time of year and place for Melissa, but now even more so!
The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions on travel, accommodations and gatherings has sparked a wave of micro weddings. Originally planning a big wedding and reception at the White Elephant Hotel, Melissa and Adam kept their original date and downsized to include six family members and a dinner celebration at her parents’ summer home in Miacomet.
A little rain threatened to postpone the outdoor ceremony, but luckily it cleared up right on time! Following vows officiated by Melissa’s brother Andrew, we took some fun portraits on the slip where they used to dock Shear Madness, the compass rose, White Elephant, and finally at Brant Point where the rosa rugosa are in full bloom. Back at the house, special toasts were Zoomed in by friends from around the country, allowing them to still feel part of the big day. Guests danced to music by DJ Billy Voss, sat at a table decorated by Flowers on Chestnut, ate an amazing dinner served from the Island Kitchen food truck and a Nantucket shaped cake from Kelly Badger. Maggie of Stewart & Company Events did a fabulous job of coordinating the day in a way that made it feel just as fun as a big event.
We loved seeing a big smile on Melissa’s face while she exclaimed what a perfect day she was having. A wedding during this time may not be what couples have always dreamed of, but it is certainly memorable!
