Where to start, where to start?? David & Donald are our friends, great people, talented men, handsome, big hearted, hilarious, and they know how to throw a party! David owns David M Handy Events. Donald is the Director of Theatre Operations at the Nantucket Dreamland and an incredible performer. You may recall the little Bahamas engagement session we had with them while on vacation in Hope Town this winter. The couple finally tied the knot last weekend at the Nantucket Whaling Museum!
Wearing monogrammed Pottery Barn robes to get ready, with nerves flying, the guys got ready at one of the amazing White Elephant Lofts on Easy Street. They wore personalized cufflinks and Artemis loafers made from vintage kilim wool rugs. We took the short walk down Easy Street to the Whaling Museum, stopping for a few portraits along the harbor on the stunning blue sky day. The ceremony took place on the rooftop of the Whaling Museum, and was officiated by a dear friend of David’s, Dan Griffiths, who kept the vows really light and fun, but also heartfelt. A mix of local Nantucket friends, family from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and NYC friends looked on. Cocktails on the rooftop were followed by the reception, which David and Donald designed themselves using vintage pieces, farm tables and orchids.
The highlight of the evening was a serenade by Donald to David of “Someone to Fall Back On”, by musical theater composer Jason Robert Brown. Brown also wrote a piece that was originally in the play The Last Five Years, a two man show which Donald incredibly performed last year with his good friend Vanessa Calantropo at the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket. We’ve all heard Donald sign, and MAN can he sing, but he blew everyone away, especially David who was actually speechless. Finally, the dance party was kicked off by 13 of the guys’ close girlfriends (Zofia included), dressed in wedding gowns, and dancing to Like a Virgin while Perry Rossi Orchestra sang along!
Love to you both!
